Cuddly Cthulhu

Cuddly Cthulhu

It seems only fitting that the first post on this blog be about my very first project. So I present to you the evil, subterranean overlord that started it all: Cuddly Cthulhu.

My sister is an avid gamer and a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos, so when her birthday rolled around in 2012, I knew I wanted to find her a cuddly and cute Cthulhu toy as a gift. A lot of googling eventually landed me here: Cthulhu Crochet & Cousins.

The blog hasn’t been active for a couple of years, but it’s home to some truly wonderful free patterns. I was surprised and delighted to find not only Cthulhu patterns, but patterns from some other fandoms near and dear to my heart: the Settlers of Catan board game, Firefly, and Jeff Smith’s Bone comic.

Looking back at that first Cthulhu, my single crochet stitches were not exactly single crochet stitches (and my photography skills were not exactly top notch). As soon as I realized that, I had to give it another try. Presenting Cthulhu #2 and Cthulhu #3.

The stitch pattern in those two is very different! It looks like I had an extra loop in my stitches the first time, not entirely unlike an hdc. Oops!

I loved this Cthulhu pattern so much that I went back to the same blog for my second crochet project, but that’s a story for another time.  😉

Do you have a project that made you fall in love with crochet? Let me know in the comments!
