KnitPicks Yarn Sale & Recent FOs

Wednesday WIPs 1

Just some thoughts about my current works in progress, recently completed projects, and purchases from the KnitPicks holiday sale!

I’ve had about ten projects going at once lately, how about you? Every year around Christmas time, I start up a bunch of crocheted and knitted Christmas presents (see my Christmas crafting post for some gift ideas), so I’m right in the thick of the gift finishing process at the moment. I have finished a couple of non-gift items as well though! The photograph above is my Selina Shawl for the Gotham City Sirens CAL on Ravelry.

You can’t quite see in the photo, but the yarn is delightfully sparkly. It’s “Ewe So Sparkly” by “Tempting Ewe Yarns” (whose name I can’t stop giggling about, haha). It’s so squishy and soft too–I love it! As a reward to myself for finishing this shawl and making some progress on other projects, I indulged in an order from the KnitPicks annual sale. Each year the week before Thanksgiving, they do a huge site-wide sale with discounts on yarn and tools, new products, and lots of special deals. I (very impatiently) waited until Friday to cash in on the “Free yarn bowl with purchase” deal, which I was incredibly excited about since I had been coveting a wooden yarn bowl for quite a while. Here’s my haul!

The Yarn

What am I going to make with all these yarns? I’m so glad you asked! The pile on the left is all Dishie cotton yarn. My couch has been looking a little forlorn recently, so pillows are in my future. I want to make a pair of 8-bit style Mario pillows, so the majority of the orange and yellow will be for those. I also have a super secret new pattern planned! Watch this space for that! 😉

Aside from the Dishie,  I have some dark green Hawthorne fingering weight yarn in “Conifer”, which I’ll use to make my very first crocheted sweater! Next to that on the far right, you can see a small glimpse of my new yarn bowl. Then the other skeins on the right are Chroma fingering in “Carnival”, another shade of the Hawthorne fingering in “Wisp”, and a skein of Luminance lace yarn in “Passion.” My gut says those are all destined for shawls, but we’ll see. I’m resisting the urge to start anything with this lovely new yarn until I finish off a couple more WIPs, like these!

Women's March Hats

The Projects

These hats are both the Women’s March cat hat, one in bulky yarn and one in worsted, and both just recently completed. Now that I’ve finally learned to knit, I got around to attempting this pattern. I’m calling it my “Women’s March” or “Equality Hat” because I’m not a fan of the term ‘pussyhat’ generally. Women don’t always have that piece of anatomy, binary genders don’t cover everyone anyway, and I’m doing my best to practice intersectional feminism SO these are my “Equality Hats.” 🙂

I’m also still working on my Wonder Woman shawl and Flax sweater for the CAL, which you can read about here, and I want to finish up the last three patterns in my Chinese Zodiac animals set. I recently finished the rabbit, and before that, the dragon and pig, so it’s just the tiger, horse, and sheep to go!
